Public Meeting - Show Grounds Upgrade

On Wednesday, March 17, 2010, Whitemud Equine Learning Centre will host a public information meeting to showcase proposed upgrades to the Show Grounds.  The meeting will start at 7pm and run until 9pm in the Community Room at Whitemud Equine Learning Centre, 12505 Keillor Road, Edmonton, AB.

The proposed upgrades are:

• adding security lighting
• reinstating a broken water line
• regrading the existing stable pad and
• adding a third sand ring

The upgrades, which were approved by the WELCA Board of Directors in January 2010, will be paid through a combination of Community Facilities Enhancement Program (CFEP) grant monies and matching casino funds. The estimate for construction is $92,000 plus GST.

The upgrades are necessary for the Whitemud Equine Learning Centre Association to attract national horse shows and other special events such as the RCMP Musical Ride. In 2010, WELCA is welcoming the Caledonia Horse Show May 19 - 24, the Edmonton Classic Horse Show May 26 - 30 and the River Valley Horse Show July 21 - 25.  These shows bring together competitors from across Canada to compete in various jumping events.  The shows are free to the public.

Whitemud Equine Learning Centre is a partner facility of the City of Edmonton.
