Equine Assisted Therapy offered at Whitemud
Horseplay is all in a day's work for Amanda Slugoski. Instead of dishing out their troubles on a couch, Slugoski's clients take their problems to the horse pen, where Slugoski tasks them with grooming or catching a horse.
"Rather than sitting on a couch and talking about their issues and challenges, I tell them, 'we're going to go out, we're going to catch a horse and we're going to see those issues and challenges come up,'" she said.
"You might feel fear, you might fear anger but we get to work with those emotions in the moment rather than just talking about it."
Based at the Whitemud Equine Learning Centre, Slugoski's staff includes four horses and a donkey named Jasper. Amanda has her Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology with a concentration in Equine-Assisted Mental Health. Amanda offers one-on-one therapeutic services for adolescents and adults who are experiencing challenges in their life journeys, including: anxiety, trauma, grieving and loss, life transitions, eating disorders, addiction, self-esteem and empowerment, depression and/or relationship difficulties.
For more information, or to book a session, please contact Amanda by telephone at 780-885-6454 or by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
